Mike and Alice Shaffer
owners of Coldwater Lake Vacation Cottage Coldwater, Michigan.

First, thanks for visiting my cottage website. It’s been up for about 3 years now.  Well, I was born here in Coldwater and lived in the area most of my life, that is till 1969, we moved to Mesick, Michigan (Mushroom capital of the world). Spent ten years in Mesick, Great people and great place to see, if you get a chance stop and visit (first visit my lake cottage). Graduated from Mesick consolidated school. Moved back to Coldwater and met my wife (Alice). She is also from this historic town. We have three great kids & two grand kids. Just your average laborer, who worked hard, and enjoyed real estate investing. I purchased this cottage in 1997 because I love the water, summer and lake activities. I thought maybe I would advertise the cottage and let others enjoy a week or two, and not hog it all for myself. This cottage is very unique; if you look at the maps you will see the cottage sit’s on a land bridge that goes to the Island. Water is on both sides of the cottage. Also see the pictures. Great sunsets. Well hope you can book a week here at my cottage, (Coldwater Lake). Please read the rules too.

     Thanks again Mike Shaffer

About Coldwater (Pop. 12,600)

Coldwater, the county seat of Branch County, is located at the junction of US-27 and US-12 also I-69 expressway runs north & south thru the city. The city reflects a careful balance of past and present, featuring a preservation of some of the finest turn-of-the-century architecture anywhere in the county (Victorian mansions along Chicago Street and Pearl Street) amidst a growing economy and contemporary development. Coldwater’s diverse economic base includes everything from the production of metal products, auto parts for the auto industry, wood furniture, play equipment and store fixtures to medical, social and community services. Tourism and cultural activities, including the famous Tibbits Opera House, to the Capri Drive-in on the west side of town, unique shops also play an important role. The many lakes that cover the county also attract tourist. Community Health Center of Branch County is located on East Chicago Street.

Coldwater was first settled in 1830 by Allen Tibbits and Joseph Hanchett. In 1833, it officially received its name, after the township, which was named for the river running through it. In 1861, a Light Artillery Battery from Coldwater, led by Commander Cyrus Loomis went to fight for the Union, going on to become one of the most renowned Regiments in the Civil War. (Some of their ten-pounder Parrott cannons can be seen downtown just across from the old Library).. Since its incorporation as a city in 1861, Coldwater has been growing steadily and continues to be a significant contributor to Michigan, US and the World.
